Psychotherapy
My fee for a Psychotherapy or Play Therapy appointment is $120 per session. The first appointment is generally an hour and a half to two hours, while subsequent sessions are 50 minutes.
I do not participate with insurance companies as an approved provider. Thus, HMO insurance companies will not cover the cost of my sessions. However, I am an out-of-network provider for PPO insurance companies. As a result, if you have a PPO health insurance program, your plan may cover some of the fee. You should contact your program's Member Services to learn the deductible for your plan and what they will reimburse per visit once you meet the deductible. I will provide you with the documentation you will need to be reimbursed from your insurance company. To prevent having to raise my fees to pay for billing or administrative staff, I do not complete or submit insurance claim forms. My clients pay me and then submit their forms for reimbursement from their insurance companies.
Why I Do Not Take HMO Insurance
I realize that many people have HMO insurance policies and wish to use this insurance to pay for therapy. My experience is that it is not always in the client's best interest to use their HMO insurance for mental health services at the present time for the following reasons. Managed care companies have their approved mental health providers sign contracts that prevent the professional or the client or family from making important choices about their treatment. For example, if a psychologist is treating an HMO client and submits paperwork, after seeing the client for a period of time, documenting that the client and psychologist believe that the client still needs services, the HMO company can, and often will, disagree with this. If the HMO program disagrees, the client cannot continue to see this same psychologist with whom they now have a rapport, even if they pay out of pocket after that. This psychologist is now no longer able to see the client at all. This leaves the client in a position of either not having a service they feel they need or starting all over again with a new professional and paying that new person out of pocket. I do not feel this situation is in the best interest of clients. I have been in similar circumstances and other difficult circumstances with managed care providers and I do not feel I can safely and ethically provide service to my clients under such contracts.
What can you do if you have an HMO Insurance Plan?
You have a few choices. You can find a provider who will accept your HMO insurance by calling your Member Services department. You can see if you can switch to a PPO insurance plan. You can seek services from an agency that can provide service at a reduced fee. You can choose not to use insurance and pay out of pocket.
Sliding Fees
For people with limited funds and/or HMO insurance plans, I will SOMETIMES slide my fee (accept a somewhat reduced fee). I can only manage to do this for a limited number of clients. Feel free to call (215-672-6627) or email me to discuss this option and/or to get help finding an agency in this area that can provide services at a very reduced fee.
Consultation
Individual Consultation $120/hour
Group Consultation $50/hour per person for a group of 3-5 people
Reduced fees are available for graduate students and early-career professionals (in their first 3 years after completing their first graduate degree). Call (215-672-6627) or email me for details.
Training
Training fees for professionals are similar to the above fees, but depend on the length of the training, distance to training site, type of agency/group and other factors. Fees for short trainings for some local community groups may be waived. Please call (215-672-6627) or email me to discuss your interests and needs.
